Formalizing Hypotheses with Concepts
نویسندگان
چکیده
The frequently used strategy of forming hypotheses, based on observations, to generate predictions can be formalized in several ways. We study an elaborated approach that has some conceptual flavour and translate the basic ideas in the language of Formal Concept Analysis, blazing the trail for applications to other conceptual structures as well. We investigate the relation to pseudo intents, discuss algorithmic questions, and give an example.

Formalizing correct evidential reasoning with arguments, scenarios and probabilities
Artificial intelligence research on reasoning with criminal evidence in terms of arguments, hypothetical scenarios, and probabilities inspired the approach in this paper. That research showed that Bayesian Networks can be used for modeling arguments and structured hypotheses. Also well-known issues with Bayesian Network were encountered: More numbers are needed than are available, and there is ...
متن کاملAn interdisciplinary framework for the development and analysis of crop models
Development and use of crop models has become an interdisciplinary field with the increase on one hand of the biophysical knowledge and the development of numerous dedicated software platforms on the other hand. This trend calls for formalizing the integration of the disciplinary contributions of scientists having different expertises needed in crop modelling : agronomists, mathematicians, soft...

متن کاملBorrowing With Interest: Aspect Semantics View of Language Extension and Expansion
Identifying aspect semantics as study of linguistic life of concepts, this paper describes various paths by which language extends and grows. At the center of this approach are such notions as an aspect of a class of concepts and a spectrum of aspects of a concept. Three different paths are described: Cognitive Modification, Cognitive Expansion and Cognitive Extension and rules formalizing ...
متن کاملThe Most Powerful Tests for Fuzzy Hypotheses Testing with Vague Data
In hypotheses testing, such as other statistical problems, we may confront imprecise concepts. One case is a situation in which both hypotheses and observations are imprecise. In this paper, we redefine some concepts about fuzzy hypotheses testing, and then we give the Neyman-Pearson lemma for fuzzy hypotheses testing with fuzzy observations. Finally, we give some applied examples. Mathematics ...
